NOFX, Sum 41 and Millencolin will storm one stage in Prague in August!
Prague’s Forum Karlín will turn to a punk rock party venue on August 23rd, where NOFX, Sum 41 and Millencolin will perform. A triple concert will take place under one-day-event music brand – Prague Sounds Good, which presented Dream Theater and Black Star Riders show last year. The promoter of the event is NuCoast Productions. Tickets are available on www.ticketportal.cz. Limited edition of early bird tickets is sold only for 990,- CZK.
A cult band NOFX was born in American punk rock wave of the 1980’s, the time which gave the world bands like Bad Religion, The Offspring or Green Day. Unlike the two latter ones NOFX have always stuck to their underground roots, refused all major labels, banned broadcasting of their videos on MTV or VH1, kept on avoiding media and if they gave any interviews at all, they have always had one aim – like during their controversial performance in the famous Conan O’Brien’s talk show in 2004 where they slammed president Bush. In spite of NOFX’s negative attitude to commercial media over 8 million copies of their recordings have been sold, mainstream radios played their singles, their albums scored in a prestigious Billboard TOP 100 chart and they have become one of the greatest punk icons of the past thirty years.
Last year they went on tour on the occasion of the independent Fat Wreck Chords label’s 25th anniversary. The record label was founded by Michael Burkett aka Fat Mike, a NOFX vocalist. After the tour’s end the band started work on their new studio album.
One of the bands that call NOFX their strong influence is a Canadian fivesome Sum 41. Their career exploded right at the beginning – with their debut album All Killer, No Filler from 2001 and its first single – Fat Lip met with a huge commercial success. It reached number-one on the Billboard’s „Modern Rock Tracks“ and remains the band’s most successful single to date. The following year brought the second album Does This Look Infected? with hits The Hell Song and Still Waiting and the first Juno award (Canadian version of American Grammy Awards) in a „Band of the Year“ category. The band was nominated in the same category two years later again but they were successful with their second nomination – „Rock Album of the Year“ for album Chuck. Two more records were nominated for Juno award – Underclass Hero (2007) and their latest Screaming Bloody Murder (2011), which received also a Grammy nomination for the best hard rock/metal performance. The band is a hard working unit – they play around 300 gigs every year and their tour usually lasts for more than a year.
The first band to play on August 23rd in Forum Karlin is Millencolin, punk rockers who got together in 1992 in Örebro, Sweden through their passion in skateboarding. The debut album was called Tiny Tunes’and was released in 1994. Just one year later Millencolin were offered a contract from a famous record label Epitaph which was founded by Bad Religion’s guitarist Brett Gurewitz in the 1980’s. Millencolin stood by side of Bad Religion, NOFX, Rancid or Offspring, and were immediately sent on tour in Japan, Australia and Canada, and the famous Warped Tour. They have played hundreds of concerts all over the world, Czech republic included, received a number of awards (including Swedish Hit Award), succeeded in charts and released eight studio records. Their latest album released last year worldwide is called True Brew.
