Zebrahead and punk icons Bad Religion to play Aerodrome festival with Korn!
The roster of bands performing on 15th June at the Aerodrome festival in Prague has grown by two interesting names. Apart from the previously announced Korn, Bring Me The Horizon and Billy Talent, festivalgoers will get swept up by the punk whirlwind of cult band Bad Religion and blown away by rockers Zebrahead. Patrik Svitek from festival organizer NuCoast announced their participation today. Tickets to festival are available through www.ticketportal.cz for 1,490 CZK.
The origins of the California band Bad Religion go back to 1979. They’re considered pioneers of the new punk wave that was born in the ’80s and were a major inspiration for bands such as NOFX, The Offspring, Pennywise, Rise Against or Funeral For a Friend.
Over their nearly 40-year career, Bad Religion have dissolved only once – in 1984, and just for a year. And while there have been changes in the line-up, frontman Greg Graffin has always led the band, which in its current formation includes three of the four founding members. Although three albums from the ’90s marked their biggest global successes – Recipe For Hate (1993), Stranger Than Fiction (1994) and The Gray Race (1996) – it’s their latest album, True North (2013), which climbed the highest on the prestigious Billboard 200 chart, becoming Bad Religion’s first ever in the top 20.
The group’s songs have always been praised for the high-quality lyrics, which are the work of lead singer Greg Graffin – who has a doctorate from Cornell University, and in September last year published his third book, called Population Wars.
Bad Religion songs have featured in dozens of films and computer games. They’ve also appeared on television as guests of the famous American talk show hosts David Letterman, Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Fallon.
Although the group distances itself from the label of a political band, alongside other famous groups they have performed in the campaign against President Bush (Rock Against Bush) and at the human rights “Rock For Choice” benefit concerts series, which from 1991-2001 was organized by the group L7 and supported by Nirvana, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Iggy Pop and Rage Against The Machine, among others.
Also coming to the Aerodrome festival from the same U.S. state as Bad Religion are another favorite of Czech audiences – Zebrahead. The quartet, which flirts with elements of rock, punk and hip-hop, has since its inception in 1996 already made twelve recordings. Among them is the album Panty Raid, consisting entirely of cover songs by female groups and singers. Not escaping their interpretation were for example “Rehab” by Amy Winehouse, “Jenny From The Block” by Jennifer Lopez, “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child or “Girlfriend” by Avril Lavigne.
Humor is essential to Zebrahead, who are renowned for their wild and electrifying concerts, which Czech audiences will soon have a chance to experience for themselves.
