Festivals Aerodrome July and Krieau Rocks is now getting bigger with newly confirmed acts. Asa special guests of Metallica will perform the grunge pioneers Alice In Chains, Children Of Bodom – Finnish kings of melodic death metal, and Kvelertak, a great hope of Norwegian metal-rock scene.
American band Alice In Chains, together with their Seattle brothers in arms – Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden wrote their chapter in the history of music at the beginning of the nineties as the pioneers of grunge. They have released five studio albums, sold over 25 million records and have been nominated for Grammy Award eight times. They have had fourteen top ten singles and two number ones in the Billboard TOP 200. Although the band have never officially split, they hibernated for nine years from 1996 after the drug addiction and death of their frontman Layne Staley in 2002. In 2005 the members of the band met at the charity event supporting the victims of South Asian tsunami and shared the same stage with a singer Pat Lachman from Damageplan. A year later Alice In Chains found their new frontman in William DuVall and released the fourth studio album Black Gives Way To Blue in 2009. The album received a Gold disc and a positive appraisal from the critics. Last year’s album The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, which debuted in the Billboard TOP 200 on number two, confirmed their successful return to the top.
Children Of Bodom who are often called “the kings of melodeath” (i.e. melodic death metal) come from Finland’s Espoo. The band was formed in 1993 by five musicians and have released eight studio albums since. All the eight records received Gold discs and have sold more than quarter of a milion copies. Children Of Bodom have become one of the most successful Finnish bands of all times. They succeeded in getting into the Billboard chart and performed on American stages along the bands like Megadeath, Judas Priest, Slayer or Rob Zombie.
Scandinavian group of six called Kvelertak entered the Norwegian metal scene in 2007 with their demo recording Westcoast Holocaust which they had financed themselves. Three years later they released their debut album Kvelertak on Indie Recordings. It was awarded a Gold disc and two Spellemann (Norwegian version of Grammy) in Discovery of the year and The best rock band categories. The band which attracted attention of James Hetfield from Metallica, among others, signed a contract with Sony Scandinavia (for Scandinavian market) and with Roadrunner Records (for the rest of the world) and released their second album Meir in March 2013.
